Cracks appear in case against ex-IMF chief

The sexual assault case against EX IMF chief, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, may be crumbling. According to the New York times, prosecutors have reason to believe that his accuser, a hotel maid, has serious credibility issues. The Guinea-born maid who Strauss-Kahn is accused of raping is suspected of lying about her asylum application.

Chavez confirms surgery rumors

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has announced that he did in fact seek medical treatment during a recent visit to Cuba. The press has been rife with speculation about Chavez’s health over the past few weeks. During a televised address Chavez admitted the surgery was to remove a cancerous tumor. The 56 year old anti American leader is said to be on the road to a full recovery.

Minnesota state government shuts down over budget dispute

The Minnesota state government has shut down. Governor Mark Dayton and top Republican lawmakers failed to reach a budget deal by their July first deadline. Dayton has been in negotiations with GOP leaders to close Minnesota’s 5 billion dollar budget gap but talks disintegrated on Thursday evening. The breakdown is being compared to that of Obama and the Republicans over federal taxes and the nation’s debt ceiling.

MSNBC suspends Halperin for Obama remark

MSNBC has suspended analyst and Time Magazine “editor at large” Mark Halperin indefinitely. This after Halperin called US President Barack Obama a quote “dick” on live TV! Halperin is a regular contributor to MSNBC program “Morning Joe”. He was given the suspension just hours after making the comment. He has since issued a heartfelt apology to the President, the network, and viewers.

Farkas gets 30 years behind bars

The former chairman of one of the largest mortgage companies in the US has been sentenced to thirty years behind bars! Lee B Farkas orchestrated one of the largest bank fraud schemes in American history as the head of Taylor Bean and Whitaker. His nearly 3 billion-dollar fraud in 2009 contributed to the collapse of Colonial Bank, and put thousands of people out of work.

NBA lockout begins

The NBA has officially locked out its players. Owners claim the league’s current financial system is broken and say they stand to lose as much as 300 million dollars this year. The league’s free agent period will be put on hold until the two sides can hammer out a new collective bargaining agreement.
